New Year, Same You! Prompts to get you thinking.
It’s almost 2026.
We’re in that confusing week between Christmas and New Years where its not clear whether its a weekday or weekend and we’re almost out of leftovers from Christmas dinner. The kids and dogs are getting restless because there is no schedule for anyone. It’s often during this week (why?!), that we start thinking about what we want this next year to look like.
New exercise or nutrition goals, journaling/meditation aspirations, relationship growth, and business expansion ideals start churning. With the onslaught of ads promising that you can be a new version of yourself in the new year, its no wonder we often feel compelled to make new years resolutions!
While the fresh start of January can feel like a clean slate, it can also feel like we’ve failed before we even start if we’re not thoughtful about how this current year impacted us and where we want to go this next year. Before you create that list of resolutions, take a few minutes to consider what was most impactful from the last year and what might be worth your time and energy this new year.
I’d like to offer a few prompts for journaling or discussion to help get your wheels turning as we look forward to 2026! As you think through the following prompts, do your best to do so with your kindest, most compassionate self leading the way.
Reflection prompts:
What felt like the biggest win of 2025 - what specifically was it about this win that made it so significant?
What was the most important thing I learned about myself this last year and how has that changed the way I approach my life?
Who has had the most significant impact in my life over the last year - what type of relationship do I have with that person?
What do I wish I had done differently now that I can see it in hindsight?
Prompts to look ahead:
What feels important to work hard at this year - what about this thing makes it so important to me?
Which relationships do I want to prioritize this year - what does it mean to prioritize a relationship in the context of my life?
Are there patterns or habits I need to stop to make room for other priorities this year - how will stopping those things impact me physically, socially, financially, etc.?
What areas of my life need support from others this year - what would support feel like and look like for you?
When you’ve given the prompts some thought, share your reflections and plans with a partner or trusted friend. It’s important to have someone to remind you just how far you’ve come and cheering you on along the way. If you’re partnered, it can also be a helpful tool for getting on the same page and team as you move into this next year.
If sharing these reflections/planning prompts have been helpful and you’d like more support moving towards your goals or need help getting in alignment with your partner, please reach out! I’d love to support you.
